| The Hallé appointment |

We are happy to announce that Ewa Strusińska has been appointed assistant conductor of the Hallé Orchestra, the oldest orchestra in Britain. She will be the first woman to hold such a post in the country.
She will assist the Hallé's music director, Mark Elder, and other guest conductors as well as directing the Hallé Youth Orchestra. The Hallé, based in Manchester and celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, is among the world's leading orchestras.

The evening will include solo and duo performances including works by Stockhausen, Peter Sculthorpe and John Adams, followed by the premiere of Laura Bowler's new contemporary music theatre work "My Friend Annie", a piece depicting the stream of conscience of a young girl with anorexia.
